Two years ago at 7:28 every weekday morning, I stood in front of a time clock, in a cute little line with my coworkers, waiting to punch in for the day. Once the clock struck 7:30, we all clocked in, climbed the stairs to our corporate cubicles, and proceeded to work like little ducks until we clocked out for one hour EXACTLY (to the minute) for lunch. We all trudged downstairs in our duck line at 4:27 every afternoon to clock out at 4:30 only to come back and do it all over again 5 days a week. I loved the actual job, I loved my coworkers, I loved the benefits of corporate America. But every day my soul was being sucked from my body a little at a time. Don’t get me wrong, that type of thing works for millions of people in this world. But I was unfulfilled. I just went to work. I did the same thing day in and day out, never being challenged and never changing. Until I found out I was pregnant. Then things changed big time.

My daughter was born 6 weeks early, and although she was totally healthy, she was TEENY TINY and I just could NOT see myself sending her to anyone else to care for. My husband and I decided that I would stay home with her. I thought, HECK YEAH… but HECK NO. I have always taken care of myself. Not to sound cliche but I am a strong and independent woman that genuinely hates to ask anyone for anything. Going to my husband for everything lasted exactly three weeks…

I saw that Dave put up a job ad for a part time, work from home, accounting person and I jumped on it like a duck on a junebug. After meeting with the Nuvo team, I knew that this company was something special. Not just for the work that they do, but for the culture that is exhibited within.

These people are family. We are all connected by the cosmos and work so well together. It is truly a team. The work environment that we have all worked so hard to build is spectacular and one of a kind. I have never been treated as an equal by my “employer” until now. Praise and constructive criticism go such a long way and you don’t realize it is missing from your life until you are immersed in it. Making people feel valued is one of the best qualities that we have in this organization.  Here at Nuvo, we embrace each other for WHO we are. All of us contribute something unique and special to the group and it doesn’t work without each person bringing themselves to the table. All opinions matter. Everything counts. We know each other very well. We get on each others nerves, but we are fiercely protective of each other- like brothers and sisters. I miss them on the weekends and I am known to just randomly call with a “hey friend!”

I started this adventure on August 1, 2018. The growth this company has had in the past 9 months is ridiculous. We have gone from 4 people in a home to 8 people in an office. We are working hard to serve our customers in the best way possible and build relationships with them that last a lifetime. I have gone from accounting assistant to a full time accounting manager, GPS manager, and operations support. Learning and growing are part of the solid foundation that we have built – but nothing compares to the productivity of valued and cared for employees. I can come in, in my yoga pants, sit down at our swanky conference room table while our President blasts whatever music he feels that day, and laugh and cut up with my friends. Makes the day go by quickly and we get a lot accomplished. There are designated work spaces in the office, but we all always end up together. On the flip side, if my kids need me, I never get questioned about it, family is the most important thing. That’s priceless. Not having to punch a clock and sit in a cube is amazing.

So, if you are still with me (I tend to be a little wordy), make sure the people around you, whether its at work or home, feel valued. Make sure you say thank you. Make sure you get to know what they like. Make sure you build them up, not tear them down. We at Nuvo Solutions are doing good work… for our customers, our community that we all love, and for ourselves. We are only going to get bigger and better.

I adore my job and wouldn’t have it any other way.
